US envoy says Hamas must disarm for Gaza’s future, hostage talks progressing

US Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs Adam Boehler expressed cautious optimism following direct talks with Hamas, stating that discussions gave him “hope” for progress in releasing hostages and rebuilding Gaza.
In an interview with Al Arabiya News, Boehler emphasized that the US is committed to securing the release of American hostages, including Edan Alexander, who remains in captivity.

He recently had held face-to-face meetings with members of Hamas in talks held in the Qatari capital of Doha.

“The reason that I met with Hamas like that is because I’m a big believer in dialogue,” Boehler said. “The meetings with Hamas gave me some hope…that there would be an opportunity to rebuild Gaza and that there was some flexibility on their side.”

While Boehler refrained from disclosing specifics about the individuals he met with, he confirmed that the talks largely centered on securing the release of American hostages in exchange for Palestinian detainees.
“There was also discussion about how this would be a lead-in to all hostages being released,” he added.
